Act Two: Charlatans And Saints
"What's your religion, Christian?" Gloria asked. "Religion?" Christian snorted. "I have no religion. Yes, my own. The good-for-nothing-and-let's-beat-everything-or-anyone-up-religion." Gloria didn't laugh. "You have to appreciate people who have a religion." "Why should I?" Christian said. Before Gloria could say anything, Christian said: "Wanna hear my religion's prayer?" Gloria shook her head, but Christian sang already.
"Oh, bless me Lord for I have sinned
It's been a lifetime since I last confessed
I threw my crutches in 'the river
of a shadow of doubt"
And I'll be dressed in my Sunday best"
Gloria looked away. "I've got more verses. Wanna-" "No, Chris, stop it. Stop your fire of blasphemy and genocide." Christian turned to the left to some boys.
"I'm getting a fever because of you." Gloria said to Christian. "Oh, because of my good-for-nothing-and-let's-beat-everything-or-anyone-up-religion?" "No. Because you want to burn down all the good things. I'm gonna change the world, Christian." "Oh, no, I fell for a peacemaker…" Christian mumbled.
"I got a fever, a non-believer," Gloria points at Christian, "I'm in a state of grace. For I am a Caesar, I'm gonna seize the day! Call of the banshee, hey, hey!" Gloria's smile was growing bigger and bigger. "We'll call up the Gaza, hey, hey! Death to the girl at the end of the serenade!" Gloria smiled. "By Chris. 'Til never!" And Gloria ran away. "Your weird, Gloria." Christian sighted. "She's a one of a kind, Gloria." Said a boy, sitting near Christian. "She's a sucker for all the criminals breaking the laws." Christian answered. "She's the last of the American girls."
"I'm home, Gloria." "No…" Gloria turned off the television and walked to Christian. "Did you start a riot again?" Christian grimaced. "This empty laughter has no reason, really." "Oh, just go away!" "No!" "Why did I ever fall for you?!" Christian's eyes were watery. He ran off to the bathroom and started crying. "Christian's crying in the bathroom…" Gloria said and packed her bags. "I feel so useless in the Murder City… I'm leaving this house." Gloria looked for the last time at the bathroom door and then went away.
"I liked the riot last week." One of Christian's friends said. "Yeah." Christian looked in a sideway and saw a girl crying. Gloria. "Go on, I see you guys later." He hastily ran to Gloria. "Little Girl, little girl, why are you crying?" sarcastically he grabbed the tin of pills. "Inside your restless soul
Your heart is dying." "Little one, little one your soul is purging of love and razor blades, your blood is surging…Little bitch." He sat beside Gloria. "I'm really angry with you now, but… I won't scream." "I wanted a new world, not this..!" "Poor, poor Gloria. Did you just stop crying? Okay, bye." "You're leaving me alone?" Gloria said. "Yes. You can't do anything about it." "You're not forgiving me?" "No. Not yet."
"I got a really bad disease…" Gloria sighted. "I'm drugged up for what?"she sighted. "For another world…" She lay down. "I'm my own worst enemy…." And she fell to sleep, alone and without Christian.
