Sinéad verstijfde halverwege het rennen. Het zachte gekreun van Lyanne begon hem zenuwen te baren, en hij wilde zo snel mogelijk naar haar toe. 'Wait there!' zei de stem nogmaals. Sinéad probeerde zijn adem te controleren, terwijl hij toekeek hoe een figuur in een lange jas met een enorm geweer zich over Lyanne boog. Vol verbijstering zag hij hoe de persoon zich over haar gezicht boog, en zijn of haar hand op Lyanne's heup legde. Tientallen personen kwamen in zijn hoofd voorbij, maar van geen enkele kon hij zich in deze situatie voorstellen. 'Any idea who I am?' sprak de persoon langzaam, met een afstandelijke stem. De adem stokte in Sinéad's keel. 'Any idea how much I wanted her? How I had a amazing live, 'til you came? How you destroyed everything for me?' vervolgde de stem, met steeds meer haat. 'I loved her! She had a place in my heart, I in her's. We always belonged together. But you made my life a hell!' spuugde Juan uiteindelijk uit. Met open mond staarde Sinéad naar zijn beste vriend. Al die jaren sinds hij hier woonde... Nooit, maar dan ook nooit had hij ook maar enig idee gahad van deze andere kan van de lichtgetinte en onverschillige jongen. '..Why?' stamelde Sinéad na een lange, ongemakkelijke stilte. 'How? And how long?' Juan keek minachtend naar de jongen tegenover hem. 'You killed my whole army. You were just where I wanted you, but then you started wiping out my man! All the years you where one of the Doomrapers, you where one of me! I had created my own way to get what belonged to me! But I missed out on the main thing: the beauty; the queen! And you had her. So that's why. And now, your end is near. The girl is mine.' Sinéad kon zich niet langer inhouden. Alsof kleine mannetjes in hem vergeten waren de kraan dicht te draaien, kwamen de tranen. Eerst waren er maar een paar tranen, maar al gauw werd het een heuse zondvloed. 'Please, I...' hakkelde hij. Machteloos stond hij tegenover zijn vriend. Hij begon te schreeuwen. Maar ver kwam hij niet. Juan had de trekker van zijn geweer overgehaald...
