In dit verhaal wordt het leven van Vera verteld. Ze is 14, leeft in slechte omstandigheden thuis en heeft het niet al te breed. Op een dag besluit ze weg te lopen. Ze komt terecht bij een stelletje daklozen die haar aanvaarden. Daar komt ze op een niet al te leuke manier een jongen tegen, genaamd Tom. Ze schreeuwt hem toe hem te haten en beloofd hem, dat ze elkaar ooit terug zullen zien. Nooit had ze gedacht dat ze hem ook werkelijk terug zou zien en nooit had ze de gevolgen ervan kunnen doorgronden.
